How to use the Take-Home Pay Calculator
- Enter your annual gross salary — this is what's on your contract, before any tax or deductions.
- Choose England, Wales or NI, or Scotland — Scotland has its own Income Tax bands, so the same salary can give a different result.
- If you know your tax code, enter it for the most accurate figure — it's shown on your payslip. If you don't know it, leave it blank and we'll use the standard allowance.
- Only know your hourly rate, not your annual salary? Use the Hourly Wage Calculator instead.
- Select a student loan plan if you're repaying one, and toggle pension on or off.
- Your results update instantly — no "Calculate" button needed. Use Save this calculation to keep it on your Dashboard for next time.
How this is calculated
Your Personal Allowance — the amount you can earn before paying Income Tax — is £12,570 for 2026/27. It reduces by £1 for every £2 you earn above £100,000, and reaches £0 at £125,140. Income Tax is charged at 20% up to £50,270, 40% up to £125,140, and 45% above that (England, Wales and Northern Ireland). National Insurance is charged at 8% between £12,570 and £50,270, and 2% above that. This calculator assumes standard tax codes and does not account for benefits-in-kind, salary sacrifice, or other personal circumstances — unless you enter your own tax code, which we use exactly as issued rather than applying our own automatic adjustments.
